DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS ON ICE TIME OR SPORTSFIELD ALLOCATION MAY 27
The City of Ottawa is reviewing its allocation policies on allocation of ice time at arenas or sports fields to make sure they still meet community needs. Deciding how ice time or sports fields will be allocated is a balancing act so it is important that all voices are heard.
The initial proposals can be found on the City of Ottawa website at http://www.ottawa.ca/calendar/ottawa/citycouncil/cpsc/2008/10-02/08%20-%20ACS2008-CPS-PAR-0007.htm. Comments must be received by May 27. After that time, staff will be going through the comments and looking at what changes are needed. The revised report will be coming to the Community Protective Services Committee and Council in the fall.
If you have comments you can send them to sports@ottawa.ca. I want to hear what you think of the proposal so please don’t hesitate to copy me on your messages.
MEETING ON PROPOSED CHANGE TO WARD BOUNDARIES IN KANATA AND STITTSVILLE
On Tuesday June 2 at 7:00 p.m. there will be a meeting on adding the lands between Glen Cairn and Stittsville south of Hazeldean Road to either the Kanata South ward or the Stittsville - Kanata West ward. The meeting will be held at the Stittsville & District Community Centre, Upper Hall, 10 Warner Colpitts Drive in Stittsville. If you are not able to attend the meeting, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
When the ward boundaries were last redrawn the land between Glen Cairn and Stittsville was designated as rural so it was put in the rural ward of Rideau – Goulboun. In 2005, an Ontario Municipal Board decision put the land inside the urban boundary so transferring the land to an urban ward is being proposed.
In the last census, Kanata South had 40,480 people and Stittsville – Kanata west had 19,410. Unless there is a very good reason to do otherwise, fair representation means increasing the size of the ward with the smaller population.
HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP-OFF MAY 30TH
Also, on May 30, 2009, Waste Management in partnership with the City of Ottawa will host a Household Hazardous Community drop off at their facility at 254 Westbrook Road from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
YOUNG ARTISTS WORK ON DISPLAY IN MAY

In Kanata, work of young artists will be on display in the Kanata Civic Art Gallery at Mlacak Centre at 2500 Campeau Drive between May 13 and 24.

People wanting to get tickets can call Todd at 613-591-3609, Naomi at 613-836-5857, or Avis at 613-831-2290.
