NEW TRAFFIC LIGHT COMING TO MOODIE AND TIMM

As traffic volumes have grown, I have heard more people express concerns about the safety of the intersection of Moodie Drive and Timm Drive – particularly for people using Timm. I have been making sure Traffic staff were aware of these concerns. The installation of traffic lights will help prevent problems.

Modifications to the intersection of Moodie Drive and Timm Drive to accommodate a traffic light have now been approved. This is the final step before the start of construction. Modifications include a new southbound right turn lane and a longer northbound left turn lane on Moodie.

Construction is scheduled to start this summer. It is expected that work will be completed by the end of the summer.

KANATA SOUTH YOUTH VOLUNTEER EXPO

I am sponsoring a Youth Volunteer Expo from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, April 18th at the Lion Dick Brule Community Centre at 170 Castlefrank Drive.  This is a good chance for high school students to explore volunteer opportunities in the community and to pick up the form for the Ottawa Police Checks many organizations require as well.

FEEDBACK WANTED ON CHANGES TO BRIDLEWOOD PARK

Renewal work is scheduled to take place in Bridlewood Park. This includes improvements to the older of the two play structures. To make sure the renewal work meets the needs of the community your feedback is needed. A survey asking what people would like to see and details of how to provide feedback can be found on my website at www.feltmateforkanata.com or you can send your suggestions to me at peggy.feltmate@ottawa.ca.

ELECTRONIC WASTE DEPOT SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 25

On Saturday April 25, Waste Management will be holding an electronic waste depot at their Waste Facility at 2301 Carp Road. It is a chance to recycle old computers, keyboards, electronic toys and other electronic equipment. Televisions and microwaves are not being accepted at this depot.

This depot is being organized by Waste Management so there is a $10/car fee to cover the cost of processing. $1 of the $10 fee will be donated to local food banks.

More information can be found at www.wastemanagementottawa.ca.

LOSS OF BASEBALL TEAM A REMINDER THAT CITY NEEDS TO BE CAUTIOUS WHEN FUNDING NEW STADIUMS

With the decision of the CamAm league not to have an Ottawa team this year, the City of Ottawa is left with an empty baseball stadium on its hands. This stadium was built and paid for with tax dollars.

What has happened with the baseball stadium needs to be on our minds when council goes through the proposals for redeveloping Lansdowne or building a new stadium by Scotiabank Place. We all want to see football and soccer teams in Ottawa, but we don’t want more empty stadiums. This is why there is a need to be extremely thorough when deciding how to respond to the proposals.

KANATA ATHLETE ON HER WAY TO THE PARAOLYMPICS

Kanata athlete Margarita Gorbounova is hoping to represent Canada in Nordic Skiing at the winter ParaOlympics. She is also one of the athletes featured in a General Mills cereals promotion. If people go to the website on the cereal box and enter the donation code, General Mills will donate $1 to help support our athlete.
