NEW POLICE STATION WILL BRING OFFICERS CLOSER TO KANATA

The completion of the new West Division Patrol Station across from Scotiabank Place will bring improved service to our community. A long time frustration for Kanata residents has been that officers patrolling Kanata are based at the Greenbank Road police station.

When the new Patrol Station is complete all officers patrolling Kanata, Stittsville or Bells Corners will be using it. That will bring the officers who serve our community closer to Kanata.

Because of rapid growth in Kanata and Stittsville, a facility large enough to meet the needs of the population we will have 20 years from now was required. The community police station at Abbeyhill is only 9,000 square feet. To meet the future needs of Kanata, Stittsville and the rural area, the Police Services Board felt a much larger facility was needed. The new police station will have 41,000 square feet.

In addition to serving as a base for officers patrolling Kanata, Stittsville or Bells Corners, there will be a community police centre with space for volunteers. Other services like district investigations or traffic will also be based there.

An open house on the plans for the police station will be held September 17, 2008. Construction will be starting in November 2008. The goal is to have it finished by December 2009.
