NEW DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS ON TRANSIT PLAN

The deadline for comments on the new transit plan has been extended for people attending the consultation session in Kanata on Tuesday, May 6. For everyone else the deadline is still Wednesday, May 7.

Staff agreed to extend the deadline for people attending the consultation after recognizing that people might want time to go through information they obtained before providing feedback. For people attending the Kanata consultation session the new deadline is Wednesday, May 14.

Just a reminder, the consultation will be on Tuesday May 6 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic High School, 180 Katimavik Road.

CONGRATULATION TO BRIDLEWOOD COMMUNITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY

On Saturday, April 19, Bridlewood Community Elementary School celebrated its 20th anniversary. The celebration was a reminder of the school’s role as an important centre in the community. It was great to be able to attend and celebrate an important part of our community.

IDLING AT ROCH CARRIERE

A parent of a child attending Roch Carriere Elementary School recently contacted me about the problem of parents idling outside the school, when waiting to pick up their children. The City’s idling by-law states that people shall not leave their cars idling for more than three minutes when the temperature is between 5° to 27° Celsius, but that is secondary. As the parent who contacted me pointed out, the bigger concern is that it is not good for children to be walking by large number of cars idling as they leave school.

THANKS TO THE GLEN FOR BRINGING “A TASTE FOR LIFE” TO KANATA

The Glen Scottish Restaurant became the first location in Kanata to host “A Taste for Life” to raise funds for the fight against AIDS/HIV. It was clear from the number of people who attended that Kanata residents welcomed the opportunity to help. Thanks are due to the owners and staff at The Glen for their efforts.

UPDATE ON SWINGS AT SAWYERS MEADOW AND KINCARDINE PARKS

You may have noticed that swings at Sawyers Meadow and Kincardine parks were not put up until last Friday. A safety concern about the welding on Metal Arch Type swing structures led to the swings being removed until they could be inspected. This concern has now been resolved and swings have been reinstalled. City staff wanted to be sure that there are no safety problems before putting the swings back up.

LIONS FOUNDATION OF CANADA PURINA WALK FOR DOG GUIDES

To help raise funds to cover the cost of dog guides for people who need them, but cannot otherwise afford them, the Lions hold an annual Walk for Dog Guides. The Kanata walk will be on Sunday, June 1 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lion Dick Brule Community Centre on Castlefrank.

Dog guides help people with visual, hearing or mobility disabilities live independently.

To get more information on the walk you can go to http://walkfordogguides.com/ or contact Tom Feltmate with the Kanata Hazeldean Lions Club at 613-592-1846.
