BRIDLEWOOD TRAFFIC SAFETY MEETING FEBRUARY 19
On February 19th as part of its regular meeting the Bridlewood Community Association will be having a discussion of traffic safety in the community. Traffic is a problem in Bridlewood and, while congestion receives a lot of attention, things like speeding are still a concern.
At the request of the Bridlewood Community Association, I have invited City of Ottawa staff so that people have a chance to raise problems directly and discuss solutions.
The meeting will be:
Tuesday, February 19
7:30 p.m.
Morgan Room, Eva James Memorial Community Centre,
65 Stonehaven Drive
DEADLINES TO APPLY FOR HELP WITH PROJECTS TO MAKE OUR CITY CLEANER AND GREENER IN APRIL
There are two city programs intended to help community groups with the cost of projects to make our city cleaner and greener.
Through the Green Partnership Program, the City of Ottawa provides funding for community groups to assist with projects that help improve the appearance of our city. Non-profit groups are eligible for funding for projects on public land that contribute to the appearance of our community. Eligible projects include improving neighbourhood parks, greening local schoolyards, installing educational signage preserving our city’s greenspaces, and cleaning up or preventing graffiti in public places.
The deadline to apply for funding from the Green Partnership Program is April 15.
Through the Community Environmental Projects Grants Program, the City of Ottawa provides funding for community groups working to improve the environment in their community. The deadline for applications under the Community Environmental Projects Grants Program is April 4.
Information on both programs can be found by going to my website at www.feltmateforkanata.com.
CONSULTATIONS ON NEW BRIDGES OVER THE OTTAWA RIVER SET FOR FEBRUARY 20
On February 20 there will be an open house consultation in Kanata on plans for two new bridges across the Ottawa River. A 1999 estimate placed the cost of these bridges at over $200 million and that does not include what the cities of Ottawa and Gatineau would have to spend on road links to the bridges. People have also questioned why two more road bridges are needed when there is still no rapid transit route between Ottawa and Gatineau.
The consultation in Kanata will be:
Wednesday, February 20
5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. – it will be an open house so people can just drop by
Upstairs Hall, Kanata Recreation Complex
100 Walter Baker Place
For information on the proposals or on consultations outside Kanata, you can go to www.ncrcrossings.ca.
ELECTRICITY SALES
Since the province deregulated electricity sales many of us have had people phoning us or coming to our door asking us to sign up with another electricity distributor. A resident recently contacted me with a reminder that people need to be checking the small print. In his case, the price for electricity sounded good, but the agreement would have increased what he was paying for natural gas.
