PARENTS CAN HELP DEAL WITH VANDALISM
Over the last few weeks there have been problems with people throwing eggs at homes. This is vandalism. The mess from the eggs has to be cleaned up and, particularly at this time of year, cleaning up the mess can be difficult.
Police suspect that those responsible are getting the eggs from their homes. If you have noticed an unusual number of eggs being used in your home, it is a good idea to talk to those with access to your fridge about how those eggs are being used.
POLICE GRATEFUL TO PEOPLE WHO REPORT PROBLEMS LIKE VANDALISM
Talking to Ray Lamare, one of our community police officers, he mentioned how grateful he was to people who report problems like vandalism. What police officers who serve Kanata have emphasized repeatedly is how much reports on problems with vandalism help police respond to problems.
LANSDOWNE PARK REDEVELOPMENT NEEDS YOUR INPUT
Currently the City of Ottawa is holding a public consultation on what should be done with Lansdowne Park. The results will be used for the design competition that will determine how Lansdowne Park is redeveloped.
Whether it is the Ex, sporting events or concerts people from across the city use Lansdowne Park. All of us should have a say in the redevelopment process. Information on how to participate can be found at http://ottawa.ca/residents/public_consult/lansdowne/index_en.html.
In addition to the online questions and discussions, a survey will be sent out in March. It will only be sent to people who have registered by that time. Registration can be done online.
If you need more information or have trouble accessing the website you can contact Selma Hassan, the planner working on the project. Selma can be reached at 613-580-2424, ext. 25192 or designlansdowne@ottawa.ca.
A.Y. JACKSON ASSIGNMENT ON LANSDOWNE
I would like to congratulate A. Y. Jackson students on the work they did on what Lansdowne Park should look like. As part of a geography assignment students provided their ideas for how Lansdowne Park should be redeveloped. I was pleased to have the opportunity to see some of the assignments and pass them onto the planners working on the redevelopment of Lansdowne Park.
WARNING ISSUED REGARDING WATER FILTER SALES
The City of Ottawa is warning people to be wary of companies calling up to offer to “test” their tap water. Some of these companies have made false claims that “tests” showed tap water was contaminated by human waste to try to sell people expensive and unnecessary water filtration equipment.
City of Ottawa tap water is subject to 125,000 water quality tests a year in certified labs. In 2007, the provincial drinking water inspection program ranked Ottawa water as excellent.
While the City of Ottawa is conducting some in-home water sampling visits, visits will be by pre-arranged appointment and all staff will have City of Ottawa photo id. If you have questions or need more information, you can call 311 and ask for the Water Quality Information Line.
