KANATA CLIENT SERVICE CENTRE TO OFFER MORE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT SERVICES

In May, work will begin on renovation work at 580 Terry Fox to allow more provincial government services to be offered at the same location as the City of Ottawa’s Client Service Centre. The services offered by the new Government Service Centre will include submitting an application for a birth certificate, purchasing a hunting or fishing licence, registering a business and much more.

Health card registration and renewal services will be available one or two days a week. It will still be by appointment only, while demand is assessed.

The Government Service Centre in Kanata follows the success of the first joint municipal, provincial and federal service centre that opened at Ottawa City Hall in September 2005. The goal is a one-stop approach to accessing government information and services. For residents, it is easier to get the information they need at one location. Sharing space also means the provincial government is helping pay the cost.

To accommodate the addition of provincial government services, my office will be moved across the parking lot to 600 Terry Fox Drive. The move will take place on May 14. The Government Service Centre is expected to open in late June.

The existing Client Service Centre will be unaffected and continue to operate as usual during construction.

OVER 1,200 KANATA SOUTH RESIDENTS VOLUNTEER FOR SPRING CLEANING THE CAPITAL!

As of last week, over 1,200 Kanata South residents had volunteered to help with Spring Cleaning the Capital. This is the annual clean-up campaign where community groups, neighbours, schools, families and individuals pitch in to make sure our community looks its best. Last year, volunteers across the City picked up over 90,000 kilograms of garbage.

What is encouraging is the number of schools participating. On May 10 for example, students from A. Y. Jackson will be going out in groups of 25, each assigned a specific area. Large groups are also expected from other schools in Kanata South.

It is still possible to register to participate in Spring Cleaning the Capital. To register or get more information, you can go to

http://www.ottawa.ca/

There is an online form to help you register. You can also e-mail SpringCleaning@ottawa.ca or call 411.

PUBLIC MEETING ON NEW DEVELOPMENTS ALONG STONEHAVEN

On Tuesday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m., there will be a public meeting to discuss two new developments along Stonehaven. The meeting will be part of the Bridlewood Community Association meeting and will be held in the gymnasium of St. Anne Catholic Elementary School at 500 Stonehaven Drive.

Urbandale are proposing to build a mixture of stacked townhouses and freehold houses at 74 Stonehaven and 223 detached homes at 310 Stonehaven. 74 Stonehaven is opposite Deevy Pines Park and 310 Stonehaven is between École élémentaire Élizabeth Bruyere and St. Anne Catholic Elementary School.

With traffic on Stonehaven, people are understandably concerned about the impact of new development. This is your chance to have your say.

LOOKING OUT FOR OTHERS ALIVE AND WELL IN KANATA

I would like to express my appreciation for the efforts of Mike Webb and Cst. Ian Matyas and Cst. Harinderpal Mamak with the Ottawa Police Service in coming to the aid of a community member in medical distress. The compassion and concern they showed is a reminder that looking out for others is important in Kanata.
