MARK YOUR CALENDERS FOR SENIORS’ EXPO

This year’s Expo 55+ is scheduled for the afternoon of Friday September 21 at the Mlacak Centre. It is an annual opportunity for seniors in Kanata to get information about services in the community, provide feedback to service providers and to visit with other Kanata Seniors.

Expo 55+ is for all seniors in Kanata. It is 11 years since the first Expo 55+ was held. For the last three years I have organized it as councillor for Kanata.  This year, my council colleague from Kanata North, Marianne Wilkinson, and I are working together to ensure this Kanata tradition continues.

If you want to make sure that you get more information about Expo 55+, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me at peggy.feltmate@ottawa.ca or call my office at 613-580-2752. I will also be providing more information in my column and on my website.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO MADE CANADA DAY IN KANATA A SUCCESS

Thousands of us were at Walter Baker Park on Canada Day weekend enjoying another successful Canada Day in Kanata. What all of us recognize is that it was the efforts of the many people who volunteered that made it a success. An event as successful as Canada Day in Kanata requires volunteers with skill and commitment. Everyone who helped out can take pride in a job well done.

ODD JOB SQUAD THERE FOR STUDENTS NEEDING WORK OR HOMEOWNERS NEEDING WORK DONE

Kanata’s Service Canada Centre for Youth is running an “Odd Job Squad” to link students with employers or homeowners wanting to hire someone for temporary jobs. If you are looking for work or for someone to do work around your home or business, you can reach Kanata’s Service Canada Centre for Youth at 613-254-5701.

VOLUNTEERS SPRUCE UP KATIMAVIK HAZELDEAN ENTRANCE

Thank you to Brian and Jo-Anne Beattie for the fact the Katimavik-Hazeldean sign at Castlefrank and Hazeldean is looking a lot better recently. Brian and Jo-Anne put in a lot of effort to repaint and repair the sign, and Kanata residents who care about the appearance of their community are grateful.

NEXT COFFEE WITH PEGGY IN LATE AUGUST

I have enjoyed the chance to meet with many of you informally over coffee in the last few months. Because a lot of people are away during the summer, the next Coffee with Peggy will be in late August. It will be between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 24 at Hazeldean Mall.

During the summer I can still be reached by phone or e-mail.

NEXT WARD FORUM

The next Kanata South Ward Forum will also be in September. It is tentatively scheduled for Thursday September 27 at the Kanata Recreation Complex. I will be letting people know when that is confirmed.
