My council colleagues, Janet Stavinga and
Eli El-Chantiry, and I had planned a second
community forum to draw up a detailed response
to the proposals for expanding the Carp Landfill.
However, the recent efforts of community groups
fighting the expansion means that a second
community forum would be duplicating work
that is already taking place.
Four community groups, the Stittsville Village
Association, NoDump.ca, Richardson Corridor
Community Association and Ottawalandfillwatch.org,
have united in their opposition to Waste Management’s
proposed expansion of its Carp Rd. landfill
site.
These groups have been sharing information,
resources, and expertise and are working together
to submit one joint set of comments on Waste
Management's draft Terms of Reference on May
12. The groups’ work is comprehensive,
and includes the discussion group reports
from March 28th Community Action Forum that
my council colleagues and I organized.
Because these groups are producing a detailed,
co-ordinated response to Waste Management’s
proposed Terms of Reference for expanding
the Carp Landfill by May 12, it makes sense
to focus on the city response to the proposals
which will be debated at the May 23 Planning
and Environment Committee.
Sincerely,
Peggy
