Open House –
March 1, 2006
I have many concerns about
expanding the Carp Landfill and I am against
Ottawa taking Toronto's garbage. I will be
using opportunities at the city to press council
to take a position.
It is also important that
individual residents are heard. On March 1st,
there is an Open House being held at École
élémentaire catholique Jean-Paul
II (gymnasium), 5473 Abbott St., Stittsville,
6:00 - 9:00 pm, so that residents can have
an opportunity to hear about the proposed
expansion, and so that feedback from the community
may be provided to Waste Management.
For anyone who wishes to
provide feedback expressing concerns/comments
on the Draft
Terms of Reference (PDF), comments should
be provided by May 12, 2006 to Michael Walters
at mwalters@wm.com
and Hayley Berlin at Hayley.Berlin@ene.gov.on.ca
who is responsible for overseeing the proposed
expansion Environmental Assessment process
at the Ministry of the Environment.
All comments/concerns will
be placed on public record, and at the end
of the public consultaion period (May 12,
2006) all comments/concerns will be forwarded
to Hayley Berlin at the Ministry of the Environment,
who is responsible for overseeing the proposed
expansion Environmental Assessment process.
The final decision on whether or not to expand
the Carp Landfill, or whether to allow it
to accept Toronto garbage – ultimately
rests with the provincial government.
If the provincial government
feels that people in Ottawa don't care about
an expansion of the Carp Landfill, or that
they can escape blame for the decision, then
the province is more likely to allow the landfill
to expand.
People need to be contacting both our Member
of Provincial Parliament, Norm Sterling, and
the Premier of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty, to
express their concern.
Norm Sterling can be reached
at 1-888-253-1171, 1-800-267-1020 or norm.sterling@pc.ola.org
Dalton McGuinty can
be reached at Dalton.McGuinty@premier.gov.on.ca
