PEGGY FELTMATE RETIRES AFTER 22 YEARS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE
After 22 years of serving Kanata as Councillor and as executive director of the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre, Kanata South councillor Peggy Feltmate announced she will not be running in the October 25 municipal election.
“It has been a privilege to work for the people of Kanata for the last 22 years,” said Feltmate. “With the birth of my grandson last June, I decided that, when my term on council expires, working for the community needs to become a part-time, volunteer activity.”
“There is a temptation to stick around until every issue I am working on is resolved, but I know by the time that happens new issues will have been added to the list. What I am pleased about is that it has been possible to make progress on longstanding problems facing our community.”
Some of the examples Feltmate mentioned were: getting approval for work to address traffic congestion in Bridlewood; expansion of the Glen Cairn Pool; protecting urban natural features; getting long overdue repairs to community facilities; funding for a splash pad; and completion of the first section of the transitway to Kanata as examples.
Feltmate expressed her appreciation to her family and community for their help and support during her time as councillor.
“The support and encouragement of Kanata residents continues to give me the energy and commitment to get through the marathon meetings and tough debates,” said Feltmate. “I would especially like to thank my family for their encouragement and help.”
