PRELIMINARY COST ESTIMATES FOR WORK TO PREVENT FURTHER FLOODING AND REPORT ON PHASES ONE AND TWO OF FLOOD INVESTIGATION RELEASED

The report on phases one and two of the flood investigation along with preliminary estimates for the cost of work required to deal with the problems has been released. It is estimated that it will cost $20 million over the next three years to fix the problems that led to flooding on July 24, 2009.

Work will start this year on measures that have already been identified to reduce the risk of further flooding. While the full investigation will not be complete until late 2010, it is recognized that once solutions are found they need to be put in place as soon as possible.

There will be a third party review of all work on the investigation. After three floods in 15 years, the investigation needs to be thorough.
