After the
budget estimates I know many of you heaved
a sigh of relief. The services you cared about
were not cut.
What people
need to know is that the budget estimates
presented on November 9th are very different
from what could be passed by council. Council
has to find ways of closing a $19 million
gap and cuts to services are one way that
could happen. If cuts are not made, there
is also concern about how the gap will be
closed.
In 2004 when
drastic cuts were made, many people were concerned
that our quality of life was being harmed
and that we were abandoning the most vulnerable
people in our community.
On Wednesday,
November 23rd, I am holding a budget consultation
at Holy Trinity High School, 180 Katimavik
Road. Details are:
6:45 p.m.
to 7:30 p.m. Open House
7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Town Hall
Seniors Budget Consultation I will also be
holding a consultation for seniors on Friday,
November 25 from 9:30 – 11:00 am at
the Kanata Seniors Centre located at 2500
Campeau Drive.
This is your
chance to speak out. I hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
Peggy
