Four Kanata Bus Routes Changing Starting Sunday September 3rd

On or after Sunday, September 3rd there will be changes to six bus routes serving Kanata: the 61, 65, 96, 164 and 169.

When I hear comments from Kanata residents about OC Transpo, I make sure OC Transpo know what people who use the service think. The changes we are seeing this September respond to many of the comments I have heard from Kanata residents.

Details of the changes and new route maps and schedules can be found on the OC Transpo website.

Routes 60 and 65
Penfield will be served by route 65 instead of route 60. This responds to the concern of Briarbrook/Morgan’s Grant residents who have one of the longest commutes in the city, and Penfield residents who wanted to keep express service.

Route 96
Trips between Terry Fox Station (the Centrum) and Stittsville will use Castlefrank Road instead of Terry Fox Drive between Katimavik Road and Hazeldean Road. This will provide better service to parts of Katimavik-Hazeldean and Glen Cairn. Service will now be seven days a week and frequencies have been increased.

Route D96
The new D96 will not stop at Bayshore between Kanata and downtown. This means, for people travelling from the Eagleson Park and Ride, it will be as fast as express buses. It will run from the Eagleson Park and Ride to downtown in the morning and from Downtown to Terry Fox Station (at Centrum) in the afternoon. I have heard from many people about crowding on express buses until the Eagleson Park and Ride. The D96 should help reduce overcrowding.

Routes 164 and 169
Residents of the streets off Hope Side will get service from the route 164 instead of the route 169. This will mean faster journey times as the route 164 goes directly to the Eagleson Park and Ride without going all the way round Bridlewood first. Trip frequencies have also been increased.

Many of the problems that were identified when I invited Kanata residents who use bus service to a transit users forum, have been addressed. However, I know that some still need action. There are also new problems that have emerged. While the changes this September are a step forward, I will be continuing to work for improved service for Kanata residents.

As always, feedback is appreciated.

Peggy
