DAY 4 – Tuesday, March 14
Much cooler today - after the big storm last
night, the temperature dropped to around 50F.
Lots of beautiful sunshine but also lots of
wind.
The presentation at the Middle Schools was
much more exciting today - lots of questions
from all of the students and the teachers.
Most of the questions were quite interesting
regarding language, multiculturalism, etc.
For one student, however, his main concern
was whether or not we had Hillbillies up in
Canada.
Folks participating at REACH painted for
a while, then they painted, and finally they
finished the day by more painting. Doors were
removed from their hinges and rehung to make
them work a little better - weather stripping
around doors was also replaced. Windows have
been washed and general clean-up undertaken.
Even though we had 19 on the worksite today,
we could easily cram another week’s
work into the three or four hours allocated
to this project.
At the Historical society, folks were involved
in laminating obituaries for the Society.
Met a couple of sisters from the Mormon faith
who were also doing volunteer work as part
of their ministry. Had an interesting discussion
with them regarding their activity in the
region. After a half day at the Historical
society, the work party went to the Food Bank
to assist that organization. The Food Bank
serves roughly 600 people in the area, which
could represent close to 10% of the population
of LaFollette.
At the Habitat work site, painting and siding
continued with one side totally finished,
including soffits. Hopefully no more than
another day of siding to complete the job.
Bedrooms are pretty well finished with respect
to painting, but still another day or two
of work required.
