Day 7– Friday, March 17

Friday started early and ended early for the Habitat participants. The state bird of Tennessee, (the chirping fire alarm, mentioned on the day 5 website article) was discovered "nesting" under the chassis of the Feltmate truck. Tom would be happy to fill you in on the details! We believe this bird has been put to rest. However its migratory patterns are unpredictable..........

The group dedicated the morning to completing their volunteer projects.

Final activities at the Habitat House build included finishing the soffit, putting hinges on doors, touch up painting on the trim and mounting commemorative pennies on the railing posts. The pennies were Canadian and American to epitomize the joint Canadian and American efforts in building the home. Both pennies are from 2005 to signify the start date for the build. The future home owners of the habitat house were presented with an original painting of a trillium donated by Susan Goold, a member of Kanata United Church.

At Camp Galilee, work was completed on the installation of air conditioners. The cabin renovations (the women's project) were completed and the walls are ready for the next folks to paint.

A small contingent of the group stayed at the Marina and thoroughly cleaned all the guest accommodations as a thank you to the generosity of our hosts Fred, Debbie and their daughter Lucy. This Marina was formerly the site of a notorious nightclub and gambling den. The old buildings from those days have been replaced with the modern centre that comfortably housed our group.

The Habitant representatives provided us with lunch ad a wonderful and emotional sendoff. We then embarked on our two day return journey home.
